He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the Levites and refine them like gold and silver. Then the LORD will have men who will bring offerings in righteousness.
This is a very interesting verse which tell us of the nature and character of God. To understand this better, you need to understand how a silversmith works. He holds the piece of silver over the fire and let's it heat up , because in refining one needs to hold up the silver in the middle of the fire where it is hottest to burn away all the impurities. That is similar to God holding on to a hot spot to bring the best out of us. The verse said he "SITS". The silversmith has to sit through the entire time when the silver is being purified in the fire as well as watch carefully because if the silver is left a moment too long, it becomes destroyed.
This is to remind us that whatever we go through, God is with us and watching over us (hence he won't let us get destroyed by our trials ). His eyes are on us and we will be better people in the end.
