Okay I haven't been here in forever
Not because the spiritual part of me went on break or died
Rather its because

1. I normally post everything on my regular blog

and

2. I have been questioning lots of things recently. Some days I think those questions are bad because it means am doubting everything I have always know, other day I think those questions are the some of the good things happening to my faith  as am beginning to lose religion on lean more on faith. I think the issue is what I feel /believe in my heart seems to argue with what I have been taught and what I know with my head. Yeah me and my complications.

Nyways some Sunday bits
  • There are many churchgoers and even more Christians but few are both. We need more churchgoers who are Christians.
  • It is better to be full of faith and void of religion, than to be full of religion and void of faith.
Happy Sunday xx

Being raised in the church isn't the same thing as being raised in Christ. To me the self righteous white folks are better than the ethically saved , proud , seat warming black folks . At least they know who they are and why they stand for what they stand for. We actually don't need a new generation of self-righteous or ethically saved people. When we sit and judge those who are not Christians, we should remember that our perspective of life is formed from what we are told continuously, we grow up calling a chair a chair because we were continuously taught that item is a chair. Our faith is not in our words but in our actions (real actions not the fake attention seeking ones ).Treat everyone with non-self seeking love because we never know the battles they fight daily or the battles they are losing. To me the only rule that governs everything I do is love, am not a bible bashing Christian but I understand that much about Christ. A guy once said to me , if someone walks into a church hoping to meet God and meets you instead , would they feel like they have met Christ ? or if they wake up and hope to find God but met you instead, would they feel like they have touched Christ ?

Hold Fast

Life is tough. Sometimes in spite of our best efforts we are still overwhelmed. At such times we need someone to help us in the trenches of our inner battles and interpersonal struggles. No one anchors a ship unless they realize there is the potential for drifting. Sometimes in life, you can drift so far that you don’t even realize how far you’ve gone. If you’re not careful though, you can drift away. Hopelessness is what makes people give up on life. They’re convinced there’s nothing beyond what they have experienced or seen. But there has to be something inside that says, “I’ve got more to do! I've more to live for” Hope, faith and love keeps us going when the storms of life hit. Hope gives us faith and faith gives us hope, while the love of God holds us.

Didn't know which was more suitable between Imagine me by Kirk Franklin and Mercy me Hold fast.

Judge Not!

I have no right to be a judge of conduct or character, hence I try not to judge anyone because only God knows and only him can judge. People have several reasons for the decisions they make and am not sure if I would have done better if I was walking in their shoes.
But everyone I go , its people judging each other. With those within the church being the most judgmental
They become so used to judging that people on the outside avoid the church.
Not so long ago a friend of mine said "MsB, I just noticed you are now so born again , does that changes you? " and I asked in what way and he replied "you give everyone blank sheets and second chances".
So am wondering , does being closer to God make me that way? No it shouldn't, it instead it should help me deal with people with Love.

One the other side of the coin we have Christians being judge and called names such as hypocrites (in fact I am guilty of this). They are viewed as people who act good with evil within their hearts. I heard someone call this guy a hypocrite because he wants to sleep with his girl. While its easy to scream "that this brother is a hypocrite for not following what is preached" let's not forget that everyone is human . The church is not made for those who are perfect but those who have acknowledged that humans have weaknesses, those who want to please God. But also , lets not forget that we are not to conform to the world, rather we are to set positive examples and live right with the God.

\\ sidebar: I met this girl who you would have to kill to get her into a pentecostal church, because she says a Christain -sister stole her boyfriend. She further explained that if you really have a good heart guarded by God's word then you are not to take what's not yours rather you are to encourage the guy to work things out with his girlfriend. That way the sister would have shown what true Christianity is about. Instead the "sister" had taken a moment of weakness in some one's relationship as her opportunity. (This is an all too common scenario with girls in church, with them pouncing on any brother with the "Godly Love" and I believe she is right. On a lighter note,  I always say I would rather have my bf hang out with a regular girl than a christain sister, because then there can be no surprises )

I know everything works for our good but we should be careful, because things we do that may seem right might be breaking some one's faith in God. So a few quotes on judgement

Matthew 7:1-2
1Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.

Romans 2:1
You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things.

1 Corinthians 5:12-13
12What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? 13 ... Expel the immoral brother!

Romans 14:10,13
10You, then, why do you judge your brother? Or why do you look down on your brother? For we will all stand before God's judgment seat. 13...therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another...

But in conclusion let us judge our actions be based on the word of God that is within us.

Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.

And we complain

Do me a favor, list out the top 3 things you complain about. Mine would go like this -
  1. My Salary
  2. My Job
  3. Every other thing
Yes I know, I'm worse than your average complainer :) Then read this verse -
Then the people of Israel set out from Mount Hor, taking the road to the Red Sea to go around the land of Edom. But the people grew impatient with the long journey, and they began to speak against God and Moses. “Why have you brought us out of Egypt to die here in the wilderness?” they complained. “There is nothing to eat here and nothing to drink. And we hate this horrible manna!”  Numbers 21:4,5 NLT.
Notice the progression? The long and weary journey resulted in impatience. Next came loss of faith, hence the question -  “Why have you brought us out of Egypt to die here in the wilderness?”. Then came the loss of gratitude - They complained about the manna God had given them. You see, God did not bring them into the wilderness to die, he was taking them to Canaan - the promised land. Neither did he intend to give them manna for ever, no, it was a food for the interim period. Even at that they were provided water and meat - from the birds.

Are we any different from these guys? Do we not lose focus from our destination and grow impatient with the journey? Do we not doubt God's plan for our lives. Do we not complain about His merciful interim blessings? Concentrating on the discomfort of your present situation can make you lose track of your destined future. Start giving thanks for everything instead of complaining today. Do not lose your patience, faith or gratitude.

Happy Weekend Y'all

Talk to things

For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain,
Be removed ....
(
MARK 11:23 NKJ)

We all know what the rest of the verse says but we never act on it. Why?
Too many people think of the Bible only as a Holy book to be
revered. So they put it up on a shelf and make sure no one
mistreats it. That's not the way it should be!

The Bible is a message from God. It gives us instruction
for our own benefit.

It's time to take the Bible down off the pedestal, read it, and
act on its instructions.

Here is one seldom acted upon: talk to things.

The devil wants you to think it would be crazy to talk to
things. But it's not.

Jesus did it. He talked to sickness. He talked to the storm and
told it to be still. He talked to dead bodies and commanded
them to get up. He talked to trees. And He talked to the devil
and told him to get behind him.
Jesus talked to things. You should too.
You should talk to fear and worry. You should talk to
confusion. You should talk to lack.
You should talk to every
area of your life.
You should talk to
sickness. You should talk to the devil. Tell them to leave.
Tell them to "be removed."
So the Lord said, "If you have faith as a mustard seed, you
can say to this mulberry tree, `Be pulled up by the roots and
be planted in the sea,' and it would obey you.
(
LUKE 17:6 NKJ)
Always have this in mind:
Jesus said I can talk to things. So I can speak to
everything that is of the devil and command it to get out of my
life now!
Remain Blessed!!!

The sword of the spirit

Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (KJV) Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth. (NIV)
Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God (Ephesians 6:17).

I used to argue that this verse didn't say study the bible but just to study to became approved by God. But what better place to find out what God wants, than his words / revelations. Newton was great but his words won't help me correctly handle the truth.
Now am one of those people who was brought up studying the bible everyday and this is my mum's favourite verse when she is forcing us to wake up and turn-up for morning devotion. I have heard this verse countless times, through those days it seems like I needed glue to keep my eyes open or battling with sleep like our lives depended on staying awake (it kinda did, when we thought about the slap) or those days I had an assignment to complete, which was to be submitted first thing in the morning. But it was a good time where we got to "debate" on what we thought of God's word, with the bible always winning the debates over our modernised theories. I learned things, Now that made me aware of things, what God wanted and what he didn't want

But over the years of gaining independence from waking up in the same house as my mum and jumping on to the ever-busy world, studying God's word slowing went from a daily ritual to a weekly ritual to a only on Sundays when pastor says it time. To make myself feel better, I even moved the bible from the drawer to the table top and eventually to my bed . Saying if I saw it more or kept it closer to me I would remember, be more conscious of its existence. But it just stayed under my pillow, night in , night out

And just as well, I became more disconnected from God. My sense of good from bad became tainted, I started judging things "within context" ( i.e the truth is relative to the situation , abortion might be right if it saved a life! you get my drift) and I also reading the bible out of context ( lots of us do this , only quote what we need , we don't even know what it says in the very next verse). For those of us who think putting your bible under you bed would chase any evil that comes at night ( thanks to Nigerian home-videos ) think again! The only way you can chase any evil is having the word in you and not underneath your head. While you sleep , the devil might even decide to read through the bible just fun before attacking you. Remember when the Devil tempted Christ, he used words out of the word of God.

// I can just see myself failing badly as he quoted those words  (*bowing my head in shame*)

Devil: "If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.
Jesus: "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone.'"
Me: Abi o, God has given me all dominion, I am even the main son of God, after 40 days of fasting, this human body sure needs the bread and I have da power so no slacking.

Someone once said this was a temptation of pride, there is nothing wrong with meeting one's need but notice how the Devil said "if you are the son of God..". Also there is a higher law than our physical desires, and that is God's Word. Jesus' point is that physical needs must be met God's way, not our own selfish, short-cut way

Devil: I will give you all their authority and splendor, for it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. So if you worship me, it will all be yours."
Jesus answered: "It is written: Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.
Me: Well am not sure what I would have said but I think I would have said Bros ye, let me think about it first or said No then started dreaming about the offer I turned down ( We are humans o , stop judging me, someone even said he would consider it a blessing in disguise rather than a temptation, there is nothing God won't forgive smh )

This was temptation is to authority and worldly glory. Being near the pinnacle of political or corporate power, the temptations to comprise are many and the stakes are high. "You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours," is the mantra. Jesus knew that power was important to his mission as Messiah, But he knew it should be bestowed by his Father in due time.

Devil: "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down from here. For it is written:" 'He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'
Jesus: "It says: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'"
Me: Na true God talk say he no go let my feet hit a stone so make I jump to prove that my God is a miracle-worker, so this devil can know who be who ( me boasting and being proud), So baba God let's go there  after all he watches over me, completely forgetting the part where God said we shouldn't test him.

360° Chindogu. (Diary of the prodigal son.)

{Please bear with my unconventional way of making a point... as a writer its one of my biggest flaws but... anyway on to what I want to say}

One of my favourite concepts in the world is Chindogu. The Japanese art of inventing stuff that looks like it solves a problem for society, but when you think abut it you realise it creates other problems. You can read about it on Wikkipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki.Chindōgu
I love the wackiness of Chindogu so much I actually went to Amazon and got me a book full of Chindogu , I swear. But as a concept I like it cuz it relates to modern society's quest to solve her own problems.

E.g UK has a problem, teenage single mothers cuz of their age and limited skill cant take care of the children properly, so what do we do? create a welfare system for the child's good, where every low income mom has a guaranteed flat paid for by other UK tax payers, and a small cash allowance. Problem solved, except now millions of teenage girls decide there's no need to work if they get benefits for being pregnant. Any better  ideas reader?

You get the idea of how society has its Chindogu right? Courts order the killing of murderers to show society that killing is wrong... An global warming campaigner is so busy saving the environment that he needs to lease a private jet every other week... Nigerian football federation thinks Amodu Shuaibu cant win the world cup, so 3months to the world cup they get a foreign coach because we all know foreign coaches are better.

#Sidebar On the topic of Global warming, is it true that cows fart is a greater danger to the environment that car exhaust emissions?... if so I cry and re-cry... DOWN WITH VEGETARIANS!!! They're trying to kill us all.

Back to my fascination with chindogu, one of my favourites  is the sleeve fan you can get for your indomie. Now we don't need to keep blowing on your fork. Problem solved right, why didn't you think of that?.... no its not a joke.

On a less wackier note... I like chindogu cuz though I'm far from the holiest man alive, spiritually I recognise the many Chindogu I introduce in my life every day because I don't trust God enough to learn how he says I can solve a problem, and just stick to what he says, if you are like me then its your daily struggle too.

Thinking about Chindogu I just let my pen dance and when she was done, her foot print sorta looked like this...

I woke up this morning, God said that he would bless me
but it perplexes me
How I walked and went my own way,

I whipped the compass out and I turned left.
cuz I'm sooo the wise man, yes I know best

it's not always arrogance, sometimes its just fear
that he's not near, so I dont switch gear,
then I'm stuck in the rear, as I try to drive forward
but I'm constantly looking back

Enjoying the guilt of the time I fell in the crack
and lazily chose the words of lack

feeling I was off the chain till I...
fell off the chain and I...
beg for remains.... and needed Your mercy

and had to battle the giult like I'm not worthy,
but the truth is infact I was never worthy,
it would take a miracle to make the man o' flesh pure
but I know as your love for me is sure

God gave love but the world gave lust to me
a mouth for blessings but the world gave a cuss to me
he gave a humble confidence but the world says pride
and the IMP is the mansion and the ride
I want a thick body girl, but a Church going bride....
"Owo mbe, money dey, yeah u know where i reside"...

and the radio feeds me the lies all day
and the TV too, its the constant replay
of the contrary word, to what I got from the lord
and they're not even fresh, I'm surprised your not bored

I need the word, that's from the name most high
some soul food, so I know my mind wont die
the foundations of this world, I see em grow weak
and who d'youu think's goun inherit it? The meek...

I've tried the other way and it just dont cook
its the prodigal returned, but please dont look...

Carrot and Stick

How do you relate with someone who is doing, continues doing or wants to do something you do not approve of? Do you scream? Do you throw a fit? Keep a malice? Pick a fight? Do you use the carrot and stick approach - "Don't do this and get these benefits or go ahead and be ready for these repercussions"?  I'm sure somewhere, sometime we've tried all of these approaches.

The carrot and stick approach may be useful when dealing with someone you do not know or someone estranged from you, but how about someone you care about, someone you love? Does the same approach work? Can we use the American-Iranian style approach with a partner, friend or family? True love discerns a person from an action. We are all going through phases. Some mature faster in our walk with God while others grow slower. I'm ashamed of a lot mistakes from my past but through it all God's love has been there for me - not excusing my actions but loving me. It is time to show such love that comes from experience to someone else who needs it.

As we go, let use learn to say I do not like or support your action on this but I love you. Let us lovingly correct much more than we religiously criticize. Pray for the person to change much more than you tell the person to change. And in closing let me leave with this famous verse from 1st Corinthians 13: 4-10 (The Message) -
So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I'm bankrupt without love. Love never gives up. Love cares more for others than for self. Love doesn't want what it doesn't have. Love doesn't strut, Doesn't have a swelled head, Doesn't force itself on others, Isn't always "me first," Doesn't fly off the handle, Doesn't keep score of the sins of others, Doesn't revel when others grovel, Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,  Puts up with anything, Trusts God always, Always looks for the best, Never looks back, But keeps going to the end. Love never dies. Inspired speech will be over some day; praying in tongues will end; understanding will reach its limit. We know only a portion of the truth, and what we say about God is always incomplete. But when the Complete arrives, our incompletes will be canceled.
